Uneasy Bloom 36"

Uneasy Bloom” is the first painting in an ongoing collaborative series with elm harris jewelry. Together, we are exploring the Victorian language of flowers—an old code once used to express unspeakable emotions—to speak up about what feels unspeakable now.

This body of work, A Bouquet of Rage and Grief, is our shared response to the anxiety, sorrow, and outrage we feel about current events and growing threats to democracy. We are both conflict-averse by nature, but the weight of silence felt heavier than the risk of saying something.

In this piece, I’ve painted five symbolic plants: Wild Petunia (anger), Quaking Grass (uneasiness), Pansy (hostile thoughts/I resist you), Marigold (grief, despair, and mourning) and Rue (disdain). The raven, Remi, is under the care of the Vermont Natural History Museum and lives with my friend Stacy Salpietro-Babb. With a damaged wing, Remi cannot fly—but she retains her fierce intelligence. She appears here in an act known as “anting,” where birds allow ants to crawl through their feathers to rid themselves of parasites—an ancient form of self-care and healing.

Scattered through the foliage are subtle collage elements: newspaper clippings and images of real-world pain and conflict. These moments—news headlines, political theater, images of protest and displacement—anchor the work in today’s reality.

This painting is a beginning: a seed of shared purpose and expression between two artists who met as strangers, quickly realized we were kindred spirits, and decided to stand up, gently but firmly, for what matters.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream: An Artistic Exploration Where Imagination Rules and Anything is Possible

Inspired by Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, this exhibition explores themes of love, identity, magic, and transformation through imaginative and boundary-blurring works. Traditional materials become storytelling tools as artists reinterpret the play’s whimsical spirit and dreamlike atmosphere. Celebrating the power of imagination, the show presents art as a space where reality and fantasy merge, and where the creative process itself becomes a form of alchemy.
