Part of a collaborative series with Spill the Tea Sis Apothecary, inspired by Mischa Roy’s herbal spell candle blends.

There are times in life when everything shifts—when we begin something new or let go of something old. These moments can be exciting, heartbreaking, or both at once. Medicine for New Beginnings was created as a visual and herbal meditation on that tender in-between space: where one chapter ends and another begins.

This painting draws on the New Beginnings herbal blend crafted by Mischa Roy of Spill the Tea Sis Apothecary. It includes a mix of herbs traditionally used to support clarity, protection, courage, and emotional balance—plant allies for navigating change with intention.

Here’s a glimpse into the blend and its symbolic uses:

  • Lemongrass – Often used in spiritual cleansing, lemongrass is thought to clear away stagnant energy and open space for fresh starts. Its citrusy scent lifts the mood and sharpens focus.

  • Orange Blossom – Associated with love, joy, and fertility, orange blossom brings a sense of hope and brightness to new ventures. It's traditionally used in celebrations and blessings.

  • Flowering Mint – Cooling and invigorating, mint helps calm the nerves while encouraging clear thinking. It’s also linked to prosperity and forward momentum.

  • Flowering Thyme – Known for its protective qualities, thyme has long been used to give courage and ward off negativity. When in bloom, it also carries a sweetness that connects to the heart.

  • Lemon Verbena – Uplifting and soothing, lemon verbena is used to ease grief, reduce anxiety, and invite peace during uncertain times.

Each of these herbs has its own story and strength, and when brought together, they create a layered blend for emotional grounding and energetic renewal.

Medicine for New Beginnings will be available on May 23 at Spill the Tea Sis Apothecary in Northampton, MA, and at the Paradise City Art Festival on May 24–26.
