This painting features a tangle of late-summer wildflowers, Joe-Pye Weed and Goldenrod, in full bloom, rising in the foreground against a backdrop of a freshly mown meadow and distant trees. It is a scene from land near me in late summer Vermont.
Both carry rich folklore. Goldenrod is often seen as a symbol of luck and guidance, while Joe-Pye Weed has medicinal roots dating back to the first inhabitants of this land.
Text with hints of their stories is written into the shadows and spaces between the flowers and leaves.

Misty Marsh

Just a quarter mile north of my house is this small lake with a marsh on one side. It is between an active train track to the east and a busy two lane road to the west.
The lake is beautiful. I drive by it almost everyday and I see fishermen and kayakers sitting in its peace, also geese, ducks, and just the other day, a blue heron.
Treasures like this spot are easy to miss as we move through busy lives, and such gifts when we notice them.

This piece of land behind my 200 year old farmhouse enchants me and I paint it again and again. Once part of a road over the mountain to the next town over, it is now a trail that winds past sugar maples and birches and the ruins of the old tavern. ​$4,600

I found so much information about the folklore of Poison Ivy and Jewelweed that Poison Ivy is now one of my favorites to talk about. It is a powerful ally of the wild places, it is in fact the protector of delicate eco-systems, thriving in the surrounding disturbed places.
It's "poison" grows in strength as CO2 levels rise and the plants double in size with warmer soils brought on by greenhouse gases.​ $3,500
